OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY

Occupational therapists (OT’s) promote health and wellbeing by enabling people to engage in activities that are meaningful to them. OT’s will consider a person’s skills, values and their environment to provide supports to increase participation and independence for every day tasks.

Occupational therapists can support children and young people to:
-
Show increased confidence and resilience through activities that accurately meet their skills and provide the “just right challenge”.
-
Develop increased independence with self-care tasks such as hygiene, dressing, sleep and toileting.
-
Build upon their skills to support independent living such as cooking, cleaning, budgeting and laundry skills.
-
Understand and effectively manage sensory processing difficulties to support regulation.
-
Further develop their play and social skills to enable them to build and maintain positive friendships.
-
Develop an increased awareness of emotional regulation, and discover strategies to appropriately respond to various situations.
-
Further develop their fine motor skills such as dexterity, manipulation, hand strength and bilateral coordination.
-
Progress with their gross motor development including body awareness, core strength and balance.
