HYDROTHERAPY
Hydrotherapy
Hydrotherapy at Life Skills Hub is a form of occupational therapy delivered in a warm water pool environment. Our occupational therapists support young people to work towards their goals through movement, play and functional activities in the water.
Hydrotherapy provides a unique environment where young people can build skills, confidence and independence in a way that may feel different to traditional therapy settings.
The properties of water can assist with strength, coordination, regulation and confidence, while also providing opportunities for participation in a fun and motivating way.
Hydrotherapy can be used alongside clinic-based therapy or as part of a broader therapy plan to support skill development across different environments.
Hydrotherapy can support young people to work on a range of functional goals. Examples include:
-
Improving functional strength and endurance to support participation in daily activities such as gross motor tasks and self-care tasks.
-
Developing postural control and core stability required for completing everyday tasks.
-
Improving coordination and motor planning to support tasks such as dressing, playground participation and community mobility.
-
Increasing independence in personal care routines, including changing, showering and managing clothing.
-
Supporting sensory regulation and body awareness to enable improved participation in home, school and community environments
-
Building tolerance for structured activities and following routines, supporting engagement in therapy, school and group settings
-
Improve social participation through shared activities, turn-taking and engagement.
