Hi, I'm Matt!

Occupational Therapist
& Qualified Pilot

Matt is an accredited, practicing occupational therapist, completing his honours degree of occupational therapy at the end of 2024. Matt has stepped into his new role of occupational therapist at the beginning of 2025, after working with Life Skills Hub since late 2020 as a mentor and allied health assistant.

Matt has experience and passion for supporting young people to reach their goals and realise their potential beyond a diagnosis. Matt’s background as an allied health assistant and mentor emphasised the importance of listening to young people and understanding their unique experiences of the world. Matt is strengths focused and aims to connect with young people through incorporating their interests into sessions, to help them meet their goals. Matt is a passionate advocate for those he works with and firmly believes everyone is entitled to a fair go.

Matt brings passion and empathy to his sessions, understanding the need to be client centred, acknowledging that it can be tricky growing up, and that childhood is not without its challenges. Matt is passionate about supporting young people to realise their potential and develop their sense of confidence and see themselves positively. Matt’s approach is grounded in client-centredness and is committed to work in a culturally responsive and trauma informed way.

What made you want to become an OT? 

After completing my initial study in aviation, I was feeling a need to contribute more and be a positive, supportive and encouraging influence in the lives of others. I found occupational therapy and fell in love with the unique lens that occupational therapists bring to all situations.

What are some of your favourite activities to do in your free time? 

Walk my two dogs down to the local coffee shop, play golf, watch the cricket/footy, spend time with friends and family.

If you were an animal, what would you be and why? 

Golden retriever – because they’re awesome

What is the most interesting place you have been? 

Dalhousie springs (a hot spring in the middle of the desert)

What is your go-to karaoke song? 

I had some help – Morgan Wallen and Post Malone.  

​

Do you have any fun or unique talents? 

I can fly planes!
