PEERS® for Adolescents is a 14-week evidence based social skills program for motivated teens who are interested in learning new ways of making and keeping friends. During each group session, teens are taught important social skills and are given the opportunity to practice these skills in session during activities. This program is suitable for young people aged 13-21.
Caregivers/parents attend separate sessions at the same time and are supported to assist their teens in making and keeping friends by helping to expand their social network and providing feedback though coaching during weekly socialisation homework assignments. A caregiver’s participation is a mandatory requirement for engagement in this program.
Teens will learn how to:
Use appropriate conversational skills
Use humour appropriately
Use electronic communication
Enter and exit conversations appropriately
Be a good host during get togethers
Be a good sport
Handle arguments and disagreements
Change a bad reputation
Handle rumours and gossip
Handle rejection, teasing and bullying
The PEERS® program may be appropriate for teens with Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, Anxiety, Depression or others who experience social difficulties.
1.5 hours (x 2 simultaneously).
