WHAT IS A DEVELOPMENTAL EDUCATOR?

Developmental Educators are allied health professionals with specialist expertise in fostering the skills, independence and quality of life of young people with developmental disabilities or other developmental challenges. Developmental Educators (also known as as DE’s) have a practical approach and work holistically to address issues which may affect the function, independence and social inclusion of young people with disability, their families and carers.

Developmental Educators develop and implement strategies to support individual developmental goals of people who experience challenges such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, acquired brain injury, physical and neurological disabilities, intellectual disability, and other disabilities. Developmental Educators also work closely with families and caregivers, and other allied health professionals who may be involved in the support of the individual.
